Design: The shelves of the SGR Audio Model III Symphony are constructed from two layers of MDF that sandwich an extruded polymer mat in a classic constrained-layer approach for reducing vibrational energy.
These shelves are then mounted between rigid aluminum corner posts that are filled at the factory with crushed quartz, included to eliminate any resonances. Finally, the bottom of each corner post is fitted with machined, adjustable spikes for a firm footing that locks into the floor it’s sitting on. Finish options include White Satin Paint or Black Satin Paint for the shelves, and Silver Pearl Anodizing or Black Pearl Anodizing for the corner posts. Each shelf is fitted with an aluminum nameplate displaying the SGR logo and the model name.
Why I chose it: I wanted a rack that looked fantastic, as well as being engineered with a purpose. The SGR Symphony satisfied both of these requirements. The White Satin Paint and Silver Pearl Anodizing finishes of my particular unit look terrific in my room, in an Apple-esque kind of way.
The shelves are dead to the knuckle-rap test and the corner posts are beefy and stable. There are more extreme racks available—some from SGR—but this simple three-shelf rack has suited me just perfectly in both form and function.
